Contractor appointed for Scunthorpe venue
BY Pete Hayman

North Lincolnshire Council (NLC) has announced that Scunthorpe-based Clugston Construction has been appointed to build the town's new multi-million pound entertainment venue.

Baths Hall, which is set to cost £14.4m - £1.3m less than initially thought, will provide Scunthorpe with a new multi-use venue capable of hosting a range of events and live performances.

The appointment of Clugston Construction is subject to the conclusion of normal procurement procedures, which includes a mandatory 15-day 'standstill' period.

Work is due to get underway next month to deliver the venue, which is set to include an auditorium with flexible partitioning and seating capacity for 1,200 people and a standing area for up to 2,000 people.

Additional balcony seating, conference facilities and a café and a bar are also among the proposals for the venue, which is poised to be run by one of three potential leisure operators.

NLC leader Mark Kirk said: "The new venue will act as a catalyst for further regeneration work along Doncaster Road - a key gateway into the town."

In January, the council revealed that SMG Europe; Sheffield International Venues (SIV) and regional theatre operator HQ Theatres are vying for the chance to operate the Baths Hall venue.
