Plans for a £250m scheme to transform the Southwater area of Telford, Shropshire, have been given the green light by the local authority.
Outline planning consent for the regeneration plans has been approved by Telford and Wrekin Council (TWC), which will see new cafés, a hotel, restaurants, bars and retail units created.
Office and residential developments are also earmarked for the area, as well as an extended Telford International Centre and a new leisure hub, featuring a revamped ice rink, a new leisure pool and a cinema.
TWC leader Andrew Eade said: "[The scheme] will set in motion one of the most exciting redevelopment projects seen in the borough for many years, revitalising the town centre and contributing significantly to economic development opportunities."
Southwater Event Group is working in partnership with the council on the scheme. Chief executive Tom Gray added: "This is a vital step on the road to securing a brighter and more prosperous future for Telford and we're delighted things can now start to move forward."
